POSITION: LEAD DEVICE ENGINEER

JOB DESCRIPTION

The successful candidate will be responsible for developing requirements and test strategies based on industry standards developments and evolving customer requirements.

A significant part of the role will require the candidate to develop proof of concepts for certifying new wireless technologies in collaboration with the internal operator’s stakeholders, 3rd parties and associated tools vendors.

The candidate will be required to develop processes based on experience from proof of concepts and train other device (and broader) team members.

The candidate will also be instrumental in providing technical expertise to the broader device team (post launch, IoT, device certification) as well as act as the go to contact representing the device group within the operator’s organization.

QUALIFICATION/EXPERIENCE

Education: Minimum Bachelors degree in Electrical/Electronics/Computer Engineering, with a Telecommunications background.

 

Experience:

  • Experience evolving technical requirements documents and test plans based on technology and industry requirements evolution.

  • Knowledge of wireless protocol log capturing and diagnosis tools, protocol analyzers and network simulators such as QXDM, QCAT, ADB, Wireshark, Anritsu 8475AB, R&S CMW500 and STT.

  • Experience with development of IMS, VoLTE, VoWiFi, Carrier Aggregation and other network-centric device features.

  • Familiarity with data management and analytics tool such as Splunk.

  • Deep rooted knowledge of wireless protocols (UMTS/HSPA/LTE/LTE-A/5GNR, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, etc.) and their associated industry specifications such as 3GPP, 3GPP2.

  • An excellent understanding of TCP/IP, UDP, IPv4/IPv6 and the ability to analyze IP packets.

  • Comfortable with ambiguity and taking the lead in developing processes in uncharted territory.

  • Excellent understanding of the wireless device ecosystem and landscape.

  • Ability to multitask multiple projects & priorities simultaneously.

  • Organized and detail oriented; Project Management experience an asset.

  • Strong interpersonal skills, with a demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, orally and written.

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

  • Experience with scripting languages (Python, C, Java, Visual Basic) and using them in automating test suites.
